The alternative to non-intrusive ads is not paid subscription.
Most people consider ALL ads to be "intrusive".

I don't consider any ads to be intrusive.

Thirty seconds is NOTHING.
There is a very clear distinction to be made between ads that, other than page loading time (even though they load after media usually), at no time prevent the consumption of media and ads that need to be circumvented through means of adblock before the media can be accessed.

One of these makes itself visible and lets interested customers learn more if they so desire, the other asserts itself as the gatekeeper of the video that you need to either listen to or circumvent in order to get to what you want.

There's also a clear distinction between thirty seconds and ten minutes. Most people who watch television in America sit through ten minutes of commercials when they watch their shows. And no one really gives a fuck.

and you're whining about thirty seconds

No, I'm choosing not to cooperate with dumb advertisements. Just like how I don't use mediums that have models as ridiculous as TV.

They're pretty intrusive when they give you a computer virus.

Well the type of ad that appears on a video is determined by the uploader, so maybe you should just stay away from that particular channel rather than, I dunno, killing the whole internet.

And because of that, I don't think you should be allowed to access any of the websites that you block ads on.

Then someone should come up with an advirusblocker. An adblocker that prevents malicious content from going through by blocking the ad, but still generates revenue for the website.

In the end content producers have to come to the terms of the users, and not the reverse.

The problem with that is there are plenty of ways to obfuscate malicious code. A virus can be transmitted through so much as a .jpg file (and here's an example of one).

Nothing my idea wouldn't be able to stop.

But no, as it stands, there is NO justification for not providing content providers with ad revenue, if they indeed use ads.

The only solution I can imagine would be plaintext advertisements with hyperlinks. It could work, but it'd be garbage for its purpose of grabbing attention and clicks, and ad-tracking, no offense.

The other problem with a virus blocker is that it works like a dictionary, in that it's limited by its number of entries. It doesn't do anything to stop zero-day vulnerabilities until it's updated with a new definition. AdBlock avoids that problem by denying an ad virus that opportunity in the first place.

That's what my script would do, except it would still generate revenue for the website. Unless you're saying that's impossible, which... I don't see how it would be, but I'm not a programmer.

Uh, yeah. If you use websites, you care about their existence to some extent. Obviously.

If you wanna be a cunt and say "fuck the Internet," go ahead, but at least say that.

If I use a website, I care about it to the point that it inconveniences me to care. The internet exists as entertainment media, and if I'm not being entertained, there's no point in supporting it.

>.> at least as far as I understand, it might not work. But who knows? Making it work would be a humongous innovation that'd probably make the inventor a millionaire.

Everyone once thought airplanes were impossible, and look at us now. :^)
