A 50% mark means you know all of the material enough to pass. Anything higher shows that you're able to make additional connections or have a deeper understanding of the material than what is expected to merely succeed. What would be an 85 there would translate in maybe a 65 here. It's just a different scale which allows more room to accurately depict how well a student did. While a 50 might be a pass, it won't mean much on a resume.
