Always like that. But really, it doesn't matter what the media, or people choose to get worked up about, no matter how bad, no matter how seemingly trivial. Because the media, and by extension, society, has the attention span of a rock.

And the media, and, by extenison, society, are largely irrelevant. Let them bitch and whine and moan about whatever they please.
