The new trilogy lacks a good villain, I think. The Emperor was the ultimate evil, you knew he was there pulling shit the entire time.I do like Kylo Ren but a leading main villain he is not.

Or someone else they could show later. Depending on how many movies this story lasts.

Just like Luke said in the trailer. So that sounds good to me. My friend said he liked it but wouldn't call it amazing. Saying he felt things TFA was building up too are just handled too easily and thrown out. I'm not sure how I feel about that. I'll have to see it first.
Spoilerthe whole film felt like Rian Johnson showing just how empty and derivative JJ's era was and trying to turn it into something interesting."Snoke is a Palpatine ripoff. He's dead now, and his death services the character of Kylo Ren""Rey's parents are junkies also stop asking it isn't important"

The guys sitting next to me were the embodiment of the cretins that RLM makes fun of all the time. When R2-D2 was son screen the guy to my immediate left gasped and whispered "R2!"I wanted to learn over and say I his ear "he was in the last fucking movie dumbass"
holy shit so glad I live in north england where people don’t clap at the end of movies

Quote from: Gatortag on December 15, 2017, 05:13:40 PMI liked Rouge One. I think the prequels are pretty trash. CGI was laughable, acting was bad. Especially Annakin. IMO, TFA was the best Star Wars behind Empire Strikes Back. Now a lot of critics are saying TLJ is the best, even better than Empire. Something has people salty with this movie. Really divisive so far.It pushes the sequel era more into being its own thing than being held down by the OT, with a lot of new, weird things. I love the direction they took with this film but for others I can see the change being quite jarring, or not what they wanted.

It's not as bad as Rogue One
SpoilerI haven't been this conflicted on a movie since Evangelion 3.0, that's really saying something. There were parts in the movie that were absolutely good and made for a great story, but there were other parts that were the shittiest thing Disney could possibly throw out and really bogs it down. I don't really know where to start. The interaction between Kylo and Rey was flawless, really well executed, I feel Kylo's character has been mostly redeemed from his shitty whiny brat version in TFA. And their scenes were plenty to keep the movie going. But then there's shit like Snoke dying like a fucking nobody, Space Casino monster chase, Captain three minutes of screen time getting even LESS screen time and still treated like she's somehow fucking important. It's really fucking noticeable when half the movie's run time is devoted to one situation the rebels are in. Every Star Wars movie has been a series of smaller adventures that encompass the bigger picture, but instead we get this bland huge problem in which most of the cast revolves around; I started to groan every time it cut away from Rey/Luke/Kylo because I legitimately have zero fucking interest in Fin and that literal who that joined the main cast of the film. TFA even got that right. We go from escaping Jakku, to running into Han and Chewie, to trying to find the Resistance, to infiltrating Starkiller Base, to finding Luke. All situation they need to resolve but none of them overstayed their welcome like the cruiser chase plot did in this movie. The movie is just so jarring, and I think the worst thing is that I can tell they were trying to do something different and unexpected (probably because TFA got a lot of shit for being too much like ANH) but they didn't want to fully commit so they half-assed it and it came out noticeably impacted by it. All of the different moments where they could have committed to something that pulls the rug out from under you but didn't are very obvious and I would've applauded them had they fully gone through with each and everyone but they don't, they copped out every time. Rey venturing to the dark side, KILLING fucking Leia, Rey going with Kylo's plan, killing Finn (that would've made the movie an instant 10/10), Kylo turning back to Ben, they could've done any of these things but chose not too. I hope they're lack of action on these was more caused by spending too much fucking time with the damn cruiser chase. Quote from: Best Boss on December 15, 2017, 05:10:01 PMIt's not as bad as Rogue OneRogue One's only flaws were the overdone fan service and the disgustingly horrible casting choices. It still felt like a Star Wars movie whereas this only felt like Star Wars half the time.
SpoilerWho was Supreme Leader Snoke? Who knows! The filmmakers sure don't. Was he Plageuis? Sure, who cares? Not Disney.
