On seeing it a second time the jokes didn't bother me as much. I still think the one at the very beginning wasn't that great and went in for way too long, though.

okay in hindsight i didn't like this either

there were at least 4 or 5 moments where the movie could've ended, but didn't, which is among my only 3 major problems with the film

I feel like Canto Bight should have had more of an immediate payoff because Finn and Rose just go and get betrayed.

I'd edit down the Super Leia sequence too because it was a cool idea that just looked kinda silly. I'd have her wake up,
reach her hand out, cut to Poe at the window and running to the door, and then have her coming through the destroyed bridge since I like the foreshadowing of her going through the Supremacy hologram and splitting it.

Kylo tricked Snoke; he was moving the lightsaber in his hands at the same time as the lightsaber next to Snoke.

snoke never failed to detect what kylo was doing, and he wasn't "tricked," per se

snoke knew exactly what kylo was doing

"Pathetic child. I cannot be betrayed, I cannot be beaten. I see his mind, I see his every intent. Yes. I see him turning the lightsaber to strike true. And now, foolish child. He ignites it, and kills his true enemy!"

the only thing he failed to account for was the fact that his "true enemy" was not rey, it was snoke himself

so if anything, snoke fooled himself, kylo did not fool him

that's what made that scene so amazing, and that's why snoke's death isn't just a throwaway thing; it's a major character moment for kylo ren

Yes it fucking does. Tell me, where is Snoke at the end of the movie? Fucking dead and we had no idea who the fuck he was or what he was doing there. Why should we care about him? Because he was some super powerful force user the somehow flew under Sheev's radar the entire time during both the Clone Wars and GCW? A story is supposed to tell you something, and we could've learned more about him while keeping him a mystery.

he dies, but he doesn't die "like a nobody"; it all happens during a very plot-heavy scene where the only reason he died at all is because of his failure to account for his apprentice's true allegiances, which makes for an excellent establishing character moment for kylo

you shouldn't care about him, because he's not the most interesting thing about the story

i'd like to learn more about him as well, but him dying doesn't mean those answers won't be given

but they're answers i personally don't need or want, because i never gave a shit about snoke as a character anyway

I do like that this film wasn't just a fan-servicey fulfillment of the biggest theories. It didn't open with Luke taking the place of Rey's Yoda, telling her about her legendary parents, turning her into another jedi. Snoke wasn't an important villain any more than Hux is. Finn and Rose didn't succeed in their adventure and save the day. Poe also didn't save the day just by virtue of being a heroic lead character. It definitely fulfilled the role of a 2nd film in a trilogy.

It defied expectations in a lot of really exciting ways, and I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with it... I'm not excited about the Han Solo film though.

Luke's portrayal didn't bother me, I think it was Rian who said what would be the point of Rey and Luke being the same character, as well as he had to work on from the ending of TFA with why Luke had left himself stranded on that island. It gave Luke more of an arc too instead of remaining stagnant from the end of ROTJ.

It's exactly what it is. Luke changed from simple farm boy to a Jedi Master with morals and ideals, and he throws them the fuck away over a hilariously poorly written mistake.
