I think it was obvious he wouldn't be in this movie. Curious what happened to the Senators who were loyal to the Republic once the Empire took over.

The senate still existed in a lesser form all the way up until A New Hope where the Moffs are heard discussing how it was just disband.
Anyone who directly opposed Palpatine was killed.
