Not sure if it's any consolation but Justin Lin did have a shot at directing True Detective S2, so it's not like he's a complete discount store knock off of Michael Bay or anything.

I'm sure it's gonna be a cool movie, just not a good Star Trek story. Most of the TNG films were dumb action flicks, too, but they had an entire series of great Star Trek content to back them up with characterization and stories; the new timeline stuff on its own really needed some redemption, and they implied it by ending Into Darkness with the five year mission idea, and "Beyond" implying they'd go explore. Whatever, it'll still be fun to watch.

Hollywood is a business. They sell tickets to theaters and home media. They deliver a product they think you're gonna buy. Look at what you buy and ask yourself if it's what you really want.

The same goes for video games. Activision will pump out a Call of Duty every year because your generation buys it.

Gen X isn't the target demographic. We haven't been for a long time. Most movies and games are aimed at the 15-25 age group. If they gave a shit about Gen X, then the movies would be angsty and starring Winona Rider...
