See, this statement is partially incorrect just because we have evidence to suggest that at least a handful of users do. If you said, "I don't care", I'd believe you.

Your two scenarios are a little different. If someone asks you, specifically, what they should wear for a party, then they are waiting for your response. On a public forum, the question is usually asked in general, to no specific individual, and so there isn't any expectation for you to reply.

Fair enough. A person asks a group of people, to no one in particular, what he or she should wear. One person responds with, "I don't care". Maybe he wouldn't say it precisely like that in that scenario, but you know what I mean.

And I know the scenario is still different because it's in real life, but that's sort of my whole point. You'd never say, "Then why'd you respond?" in real life. That's just silly. They obviously just don't care, and responding doesn't mean you do care. Why is it different in forums?

You wouldn't be able to determine the level of care if they simply didn't post in the thread. Not every thread, which a taken individual finds pointless, is commented in. It's only those we seem to breach the lowest level of decency or worth expected.

Ignoring the fact that you blatantly contradicted yourself (with your logic, you DO care about the opinions of those who don't care), I'm not sure you see the point.

No one needs your permission to post their opinion in any thread. It really doesn't matter if you don't care about their thoughts. They still have the right to post them.

It depends on the topic of the thread. If it's spam or a really shit thread, it's okay to post "nobody cares". Otherwise, you need to shut the fuck up.

I'm sorry if I came off as rude, the pain from my recent surgery can make me a bit cynical. Being on drugs doesn't help me being composed either.

What I meant was that others may care, and stating that you don't doesn't add much in terms of discussion value. Everybody do has the right to state their opinion though. Of course, that also makes other have the right to voice theirs over you commenting about not caring.
Trying to do it in the form of a silly comeback wouldn't be preferable, though.

In the end, different people care about different things, and have both different opinions and views on how to approach the opinions of others. We may not always understand the logic of other people's thoughts.

I'd agree, but there's still no point in saying it. If nobody cares, nobody should reply and the topic will die. OP should take the hint that the community here doesn't have enough of an interest in said topic and not make it again, at least for a while.
If you don't care about it, why post in it to keep it alive that little bit longer?
