I like hugs and making the world a better place. That and guns. Lots and lots of guns.
And while I may have figured out the ending before it happened, it played out in a way that I was not in any way expecting and holy fuck that ending was satisfying. I don't think I've ever been so satisfied with the ending to a movie.

You will find out who you are not a thousand times, before you ever discover who you are. I hope you find peace in yourself and learn to love instead of hate.
what was the first fucking rule?

I have to say, I would have enjoyed it a lot more if I hadn't known the twist

Knowing kinda took away from the experience

Solid movie though

His eyebrows sparkling, his white beard hangs down to his chest. The thatched mats, spread outside his chise, spread softly, his splendid attos. He polishes, cross-legged, his makiri, with his eyes completely absorbed.

He is Ainu.

The god of Ainu Mosir, Ae-Oine Kamuy, descendant of Okiku-Rumi, He perishes, a living corpse. The summers day, the white sunlight, unabrushed, ends simply through his breath alone.
If you seriously follow the first rule of Fight Club, you weren't paying attention. The rule isn't for secrecy, it's a plan of action. Don't talk, do.

The angel agreed to trade a set of white wings for the head of another demon. Overjoyed, the demon killed one of his own and plucked the head right off its still-warm body.

The angel then led the demon to heaven, where he underwent centuries of the cruelest tortures imaginable. Finally, the pain was so great that he lost consciousness - at which point his dark wings turned the promised shade of white.
Great movie

Watchmen? I understand pulp fiction but watchmen is an odd choice.

If you look even deeper (but still not that deep), Tyler was pretty much asking for the rule to be broken anyway. The idea is that he wanted to build an army, essentially. He knows how humans work--you tell them to do something, they don't fucking listen. They do the opposite. Tell them not to talk about Fight Club--they do it anyway. Now we have this information spread, and a whole bunch of these new losers signing up every day. "I see a lot of new faces tonight. That means a lot of you have been breaking the first two rules." Notice how there's no real punishment for that. It's pretty much what he wanted all along. As for why he thought this reverse psychological method of doing this was more efficient, that's up for interpretation. In my opinion, it was Tyler's way of giving them "free will", or at least, his way of tricking them into thinking they had any. It's an army created not by force, or by indoctrination, but by the viral concept taking a life of its own.

Not to mention, it teaches the average castrated, consumerist white male how to break rules.

The secrecy only helps to the extent that he only needs an army big enough to carry out his iconoclastic tasks, and without the secrecy, it would cause a lot of commotion in the real world, which would be ultimately detrimental to Tyler's ideals.

So no, Tyler doesn't actually give a shit--it's all the better that the first two rules are broken. To him, the more space monkeys, the bigger Project Mayhem can potentially become, and the more mayhem he can eventually cause. They're rules designed to be broken. And yeah, like Aria said, if you didn't... know that? I'm afraid you missed the point entirely.

Also, read the book. I actually prefer the film, but I mean, Palahniuk is such an underrated author who needs to be shown support. He's making a Fight Club sequel in the form of a graphic novel, apparently. I'm a little sketchy on the idea, myself, but eh, we'll see what comes of it.

As someone who didn't know the twist I can say not knowing makes it better.

I also read Lullaby. That was pretty interesting too.

I knew the twist going in, and it didn't affect my enjoyment at all.

WELL... I can't SAY that. But I mean... I'm just saying, I don't really put twists on a pedestal like everyone else does. The film stands just fine on its own feet without the twist, and it's one of those rare twists that makes subsequent viewings even better, because now you're perceptive of all the foreshadowing and neat shit like that.
