It's a learning/teaching experience and helps build analytical thinking skills. Nothing wrong with arguments.

The only thing its taught me is how easily I can lose friends from it. :/

If you lose a game of checkers, you don't vow to never play again; you figure out why you lost and learn from it. The issue isn't being wrong, it's being wrong in the same way repeatedly.

What if I'm just wrong according to the other person each time no matter what I say? I never won one argument in my life. Not even one.

So... I guess I'm going to have to pick up after your horrendous mistakes on here too?
Maybe serious (hence the forum) topics, like politics, I could see why disputes are still present.

But silly ones, which make up more than 85% of this site, are stupid and time-wasters.

I don't really see the point in arguing here, because most of us are already set in our ways.  People argue and it goes nowhere, only for it to happen again.
I thought it was mostly done for entertainment.
Is it really? That would be implying that all arguments here are fake.
I said mostly, not entirely.

Even so, it's absolutely possible to genuinely argue for entertainment's sake.
That's just sad.
why is that sad

Arguing for entertainment purposes? How is that not sad?

"winning" should never be your goal, even if you think you're 100% right

the goal should be to learn and to educate

if your argument is proven to be incorrect, you still learned something--you can't really "lose" if you're learning

Wait so, if I actually do win an argument once in my life, does that mean I didn't learn anything for that argument?

not necessarily, but the important thing is that you helped someone else learn--you taught them something

which is just as valuable

Well I did just learn a lot from you in this instance, and we didn't have to bicker or argue about it to learn.

Thanks for passing on the knowledge.

It accomplishes making people realize the truth about something.

Which is, like, kind of important.

And if you fail at that like I always do?
Maybe what you're arguing just isn't the truth.

I am beginning to believe that on many levels now. After all the shit I've been through. Both irl and online.

It teaches us valuable skills, helps us learn, allows us to teach others and reach a generally higher level of understanding of certain things.

So far its only taught me I'll wind up losing friendships over it, or that I'll never be able to get someone to understand my own point of view.
