Well one might as well give their remains up to nature when they're gone. It's not as though they have a use for them anymore.

Personally I don't see any real important reason for some fancy expensive casket to protect whats left of my body. I suppose a grave holds sentimental value, however.

I think it's pretty neat symbolically and much more productive than wasting money and space and resources on coffins etc.
It's also pretty fucking bad-ass.
