Should we arm teachers and professors?

Unfortunately in NA we hear alot about school shooting. It might be a high school, university or the rare time a elementary school. It's tragic that someone would justify killing random student in their school.  Most of the recent school shooting could of been less tragic if a select number of teacher were proficient and had the authority to use a weapon.  It would save lives.  The police are fast to respond but in a span of a couple minutes a shooter can kill alot of people.

Thoughts?

mandatory? No. God no. Cops are bad enough shots already, we don't need to make untrained regular folk carry firearms.

Should they be allowed to of their own will and volition? If they have a CWL, why not?

My seventh grade teacher was notorious because he chocked a kid once. I don't think guns would make that kind of thing any better.

Maybe the kid shouldn't have given him a reason.

While it might solve a problem with school shooting on some degree, it creates a potential problem of psycopatic teacher shooting entire class during a lesson, which is can be partially solved by just checking who you employ as a teacher, it creates a problem of teaching teachers how to use a weapons. So maybe hiring some kind of guard?

substitutes are teachers too

That's why we should just let teachers throw erasers at the fuckstains again.

If you're gonna arm teachers, then logically, you would have to arm subs too. If a teacher is planned to be away for some time, and an unarmed sub comes in, someone could theoretically take advantage of that.

That said, I think it's a pretty bad idea. I'd prefer if we had less guns, not more.

If you asked my parents, they believe everyone should be armed. They think you should be legally required to have a gun on you at all times.

My old high school was the first school in the state to start doing this. The teachers that have them have to be trained and certified and it's kept very secret which ones have one. I don't think the staff is allowed to know. I don't see any problems with it but I doubt it would end up being a very effective strategy.

You know I am starting to think, if everyone wants to have a firearm and if we want everyone to learn firearm safety but can't, why not reinstate conscription, and after serving for two years after highschool you can own a weapon. Both for males and females.

Conscription is a nation as large as America or Canada outside of times of war is rather cost prohibitive.

And then also personally I find the idea distasteful as a person who volunteered for duty.

Well I never said I liked it, hated it. I think honestly in the US the issue is more due to culture on guns. I mean protection is a valid case but there are some who are going all out there and have an issue with it like crazy cat ladies.

I also think the US police force is usually brought into this topic, and honestly the way they are trained is a big issue. Descalation needs to be higher on the totem pole in training. Less of the shouting and more of the hey there buddy I see you have problems want to talk about them and give space. Less costly on the police force with less litigation and paper work.

Yeah but the dudes with more rifles than fingers usually keep to themselves and other gun people, sort of like the old cat ladies do.

Now this I can agree with.

I'd say only teachers who are certified to carry them OR just really push for schools to have more armed guards

I think it's a solution that both overestimates the effectiveness of armed teachers in these situations and underestimates the potential risks that come with it. The case in favor of their effectiveness seems pretty flimsy, and I imagine that the costs and logistics are pretty prohibitive, not to even touch upon the risks of a teacher misusing it or a student getting his hands on the gun.
