Should I build a SHTF AR or a target shooting AR?

T4R. Should I make a lightweight, minimalistic SHTF AR build or a much larger and longer range, scoped, target shooting build? Should I do that, or maybe even make a longer-ranged minimalistic SHTF AR?

I don't have a money tree in my back yard. Swapping barrels on ARs is a process that you can't do without tools and a workbench. And systems that allow for quick barrel changes are very new and expensive, with very specific requirements. If I wanted all those things, I would have gotten a difference rifle that already allows for that kind of thing. I'm building an AR, not some space gun.

I'd personally go for the most versatile setup rather than limiting yourself to one or the other.

SHTF is a more or less versatile set up. It's pretty self explanatory. SHTF is an all-purpose rifle. I would go with a minimalistic and durable design. The other target option is a much more specific role.

Now that I think about it, here's the thing. If you make a SHTF AR, then you probably won't be using it unless SHTF. That means if you save up money, then later on you'll be able to get a proper target shooting AR(or something else for target shooting if your mind changes, or if something new comes up on the market). If you actually care about the SHTF scenario, then you'll be prepared, and able to save up funds if you aren't using it too much.

Of course, this is all null and void if you already have a shit ton of .223 and the range you'd go to doesn't charge anything.

Having a SHTF AR does not mean I won't be shooting it. I can still shoot targets with it, but the gun won't be purpose built for it.

If you are missing with an AK in a gunfight, it's your fault, and not the rifles. Accuracy with an AK as compared to an AR makes minimal difference unless you are trying to pull of precision shots. You sound like you get your fucking gun facts straight from CoD.

Meh,  enough to know that it doesn't happen a quarter as often as people seem to think. But then again, there is my brother who somehow, through the wonders of lowest bidder magazines, managed to get a goddamn triple feed during his first qual round.

Throw blanks into the thing and you jam more than the first round XM16's though, lol.
