you're saying that jack's relationship with ashi is a bigger issue than how the show handles violence

i'm saying they're both issues, among other--its attempts at "mature" humor have been pretty insufferable, and the pacing has been pretty all over the place--and i don't consider any one of these problems any bigger than the other

the show does have its merits--i thought the first episode was pretty great for the most part

but the bottom line is that it feels absolutely nothing like the show i used to love so much as a kid, and that's why i'm dropping it

i think the violence thing is handled well even if it is a bit of a jarring difference between the original run & current run, from a purely artistic perspective (in my subjective opinion). i do find it somewhat bothersome that young children who can watch the original run no problem (it was Y7 at first i think?) cant really be exposed to the current run, but i think kids as young as 10 or 11 or 12 would be able to handle this with the proper context so it isnt that big a deal imo.

as far as the potty humor goes, it is a bit odd but it isnt like totally invasive or anything. the original run had moments of potty humor too, like with the big farting totoro-like creature; the difference between farting and making an outright reference to a penis is pretty stark, again, not a huge deal imo.

id prefer slower pacing more in line with the original run but i kinda feel like its a budget limitation. they got an offer to make one last season, not to make four more, and so the faster pacing is just something that comes with the territory and it is something that i can easily look past.

overall ive been quite happy with what theyve been putting out- aside from the jack x ashi thing, of course. maybe you just cant look past these things the way i do.

The pacing issue is definitely something I'll agree with. Everything else though, I'm fine with.
I didn't want season 5 to feel the same way the show did before, I want the season to change certain things and explore different themes, which I think it has fairly well for the little bit of runtime that it will have, because I'm not the same kid I was at ten.
I didn't want the show to be written for 2017's ten year olds, but rather for 2001's ten year old who are now hitting their mid twenties. It needed to pay homage to the original run and appeal to nostalgia while also challenging our expectations and I think they've done okay with that so far.

The entire point of this show was to experiment with older styles combined with cliches. The pacing is really off because they have 10 episodes to work with, but it has evolved considerably.
