Evil Rick did say he was going to download Rick's consciousness then kill him, but that very well could've been a lie, he could have been attempting to upload his own consciousness, as he was in fact, the same Rick, just in the future.

They've already said Rick accidentally shrank himself into a pickle during an experiment.
