I'll agree with that, which is why I asked, but the movie just seemed poorly written.

90% of the book exists in Ender's head, so it's tough to translate. A lot of the dialog directly copied from the book into the script comes off as cheesy. The discussions between Graff and Anderson (Harrison Ford and Viola Davis) also occur in a completely different format. The side characters in the movie are also very cliche and boring, whereas in the book they are strongly developed and interesting.

Ender's Game is okay, but the next books in the series (Speaker for the Dead, Xenocide, and Children of the Mind) I thought were excellent and interesting. If you stop at just ender's game you're missing out

I agree. Speaker/Xenocide are genuinely unique sci-fi books. Children of the Mind is my favorite in the series, but it's very weird.
