I will never understand what people see in house parties.

If I were in your position, I'd call the police.

There are rules here against noise after ten in the evening, but I don't want to cause any bad will this early on. It's probably a get-together party for the students who have been apart all summer.

I should add that I don't hear any music or shouting, just constant talking (by a rather large group of people) and the occasional burst of laughter.

So? They're disturbing you, and likely other people.

Fuck 'em. I would argue your sleep is more important than other people being allowed to shout and get drunk.

Or just go ask them to be quiet. If they;re reasonable, they will be. If not, call the police.

I know that might seem like a pussy, but I really don't want to have a confrontation. I'm not doing anything important tomorrow anyway. If this happens more once school starts, I'll probably consider taking action.

Some people like to socialise. Some are horny. Some like to drink. Some just want to have fun. Parties typically have something for everyone one of those people.

Isn't that what actual drinking establishments are for?

This kind of shit is why I don't wouldn't want to live anywhere remotely urban. Too many people being too loud and disturbing others. I don't see why people can't do this at a place that is designed for it.

Eh. You clearly have a different mindset to me.

At the very least, you should tell your neighbours to give you some forewarning when they're next deciding to be disruptive pricks.

I should add that I don't hear any music or shouting, just constant talking (by a rather large group of people) and the occasional burst of laughter.
At first I thought it was loud raving according to the OP, but if thats all it is then thats hardly even bad, if you consider that bad, you must live in a quite neighborhood.

Not everyone lives in the middle of the US where its flat lands for miles. Most people don't even care if there is background noise.

You know what? If it's the first occasion, you should probably just let it go. Only call the po-po if it's a recurring issue.

I guess I did before. But it's loud enough to keep me awake, and it's really close (on the lawn outside the house).

It has mostly died down now, I guess most of them left.

I am mostly cool with it now, I just was a little frustrated when trying to sleep.

I've given up on that and decided to just stay up.

Your love gets me so high
just walk over there, introduce yourself, and politely ask them to keep the noise down because it's keeping you awake. not being a dick to your neighbors will help you out in the long run.

You're just going to have to become a guy that parties regularly. Your neighbourhood is changing towards a more party-focused state. Get a little hustle going to support your habit.

I live in the middle of Yorkshire. That's pretty far from the middle of America.

Sure it's not someone playing New Vegas in their back yard?

I could see them from my window, so yes, I'm sure.
