Are the bizarre noises a sort of clicking sound? If it's clicking in a way then you're right. If not, some HDDs have a drop feature to secure itself, only makes loading things out of it slower.

HDD is making some bizarre noises and shit's loading way slower than usual

i think it's dying
Don't listen to him verb, its time to upgrade to SSD anyway, and I can assure you that HDD is on its last leg if its making any sort of abnormal noise, especially coupled with slow load times.

You may want to invest in a new fan too if your HDD has become, in any way, damaged.

I'm not advocating for HDDs, I fully support SSDs over HDDs, but there are some HDDs out there that'll make a weird drop noise when securing itself. Although they're more usually found in Laptops, my 2011 Toshiba has this feature.

Bruh, I'm not saying you're wrong. That's why I'm asking Verb to clarify the noise.

worse yet, it just started making a loud WHIRRRRRRRRRRR noise when you boot it up, too

i thought it was just something caught in the fan, but nope, that's the hard disk

As stated before in this thread, HDDs are incredibly unreliable; At least, in comparison to SSDs. Yeah SSDs are significantly more expensive (at least, large capacity ones are) but that extra money is more of an investment than just buying a replacement.

The funny thing is, my Samsung SSD says they have a 1000 year guarantee, I wonder who's gonna be around to test that claim.

no idea what happened to it

Most HDDs last about 7-10, what brand is it?
