reddit has fired their employee who was mainly in charge of /r/IAMA, after which the moderators locked it down in protest. A lot of others subs are locked down as well.

A lot of redditors seem to think that this will lead to reddit's demise, on top of the "fattening" a few weeks ago. There has been problems and controversies ever since Ellen Pao became the CEO, it seems.

Many reddit users are now looking for a new site to be on, similar to how reddit mainly got disappointed users who migrated from digg in its early days.

They would probably think that the moderation is too strict, and this site wouldn't be a good reddit alternative without heavy reconstruction. Reddit is all about users being able to create their own communities, or used to be at least.

Reddit was born as an open place where anything goes. Where government, corporations and bleeding heart politically correct groups couldn't censor what was happening in the world around us. What happened today with Victoria being fired because she let the very tough and very true questions get asked to Jesse Jackson is a travesty and a disgrace. I'm glad there are that many subs showing solidarity in protest of Victoria's removal.

But back to this, though I've read through to figure out why Reddit decided to implode, I've very little idea on what this will do other than shut it down. I'm not even entirely sure what their protesting about, considering it's one of two things;

i) Protesting because that intermediary between Reddit AMA's and Reddit community got fired, for unknown reasons. Not really a reason to protest, given the reason for dismissal could be perfectly valid, and neither side will disclose it (because professionalism).

ii)Poor management and communication between Reddit and the community - Well, shutting down everything and dismissing dialogue between the two as "damage control" is sure to help the situation.

I suspect nothing short of re-hiring the person (which is nigh impossible - See Marty O'D. and Bungie) will quell these riots, and this is just built up rage which has come to a point. RIP Reddit, you were sorta interesting.

It's not so much that she was fired as that she was fired without prior warning, /r/IAMA had several AMA's planned yesterday (that Victoria would manage). Reddit generally apparently has a track record of being bad at communicating stuff to the subreddit moderators, and there's also been a number of other issues the last few months. This was just the last drop that made the bucket flood over.
