I mean GRRM IS involved in the show I doubt he would make jons parents different people on the books and the show...
In the books there's a character named Coldhands that a lot of fans think is Benjen Stark, but GRRM told his editor that it's not. Yet in the show Coldhands is Benjen.

It's just so they don't have to hire as many actors and so the viewers don't get confused by so many characters

One would think they wouldn't omit important POV characters like Arianne and Victarion in an adaptation and yet they did.
