Pseudo Adult, Part Time Self Harmer, Classic Forum Bro AMA

I'm not sure what the point of this is. I'm going to be 24 and I feel like a lot of forum goers are younger than me. Even if they aren't I have some world knowledge.

College grad, full time employed, live on my own, have fought suicidal thoughts and self harm, have generally done okay for myself.

Ask me anything or contribute whatever.

This is mainly an advice thread/advice you wish you got sooner thread.

Uh... So I was accepted to another university, but it's going to cost more potentially and I have a full-ride at my current institution. I can make a better quality of education at the other institution I want to switch into, but do you think it's worth it if I have to actually take out loans?

Honestly, it depends on your program. When I went to school I had many different colleges that offered the "same" program" but they were whole different. Honestly, do your research.

I'm $23,000 in debt to school but I don't regret it. A full ride would have been totally appealing to me. But it's all about what you get from the program.

Just be smart.

And at the end of it all, regardless of what you choose, know that there is roughly a one month withdrawal period where you can leave your school and get all your money back.

Just be logical and do what you wanna do.

Post secondary is scary, especially in this world of debt but if you ignore that and go for what you wanna do it'll be okay. Just be smart.

And I can't stress this enough, Go to post secondary early. High school diplomas only get you so far now and any sort of college or uni degree looks amazing anywhere.

Either way, in terms of advice I wished I had gotten sooner. . . Well, I wish somebody had told me that it's not a good idea to think of yourself as the central character of other people's narratives. I think we all do it, to some degree; we're always concerned whether people are looking at/thinking about us, and what kind of judgments they're passing. For me, however, it was (is) more of an issue with narcissism as opposed to self-esteem.

I think the best way to frame it would be "Worry about yourself", to put it very simply. It seems like people ought to be more introspective and think about how they can fit into the world better, rather than merely expecting the world to be better for them.
