>When you buy a $20 box set and you end up pulling a $40 card you needed for your deck.

Spoiler

>When you get ANOTHER $20 box set and you pull the one card that's broken the meta in the span of only a few days.

Spoiler

Yugioh is the best it's been at since I got back into it. Other than the first card above, most "meta" and top tier cards are plummeting in price and that includes their rarity. A prismatic-secret rare copy of Sky Striker - Mobilize Engage! is only like six bucks on TCG player. This is great for me.

Now if only I had the courage to go to locals.

unless things have changed very recently, i dislike where yugioh has gone

to my understanding, basically none of the core mechanics from the original sets matter anymore

traps? tribute summons? fusions? defense points? life points? nope, just card advantage, fishing for OTKs, and chaining special summons for so long that you might as well be playing solitaire

when people started banishing 10 to draw 2, i knew the game was dead to me

That's the case for a lot of TCGs though. I played Pokemon a few years ago and and top level plays basically boiled down to getting your first prize card so you could steamroll faster and faster into more. If an opponent lost from not having a back row before you could get your last card, that's more coincidence/luck than anything else.

Not to mention there's a lot of YGO cards now to shut down the opponent from playing solitaire with their deck (such as Infinite Impermanence above) and the ghost hand traps.

Lol who needs traps when you can just shit out a board that turns the game off for your opponent and also freely draw into ten thousand uninterruptible hand traps in the process.

People like my brother instantly turn me away from that game; I'd sooner play MTG. Part of the problem is that while Yugoh may be weeab central now, Vanguard takes it and revs that shit up to 11. It's just way too much for me.

Also Pendulums are dead (except maybe Magicians if you want to go rogue), YGO's been saved eons ago.

Game's been unplayable since Qliphort format. Y'all need to jump to Vanguard.

I quit the TCG scene a couple of years ago.

Card based party games are generally as much or even more fun, cost less money, and it's easier to get your friends to play them with you.

Yu-Gi-Oh has been a waste of time and money for several years now, imo.

I’m aware of his history but actual OP cards just straight up get banned. Limited means nothing.

>Opponent summons Jinzo
>Your turn you can just Raigeki or Dark Hole him
>Opponent can do fuck all cause he can’t chain with traps either and hand-traps weren’t a thing back then.

see though, by this logic pot of greed is one of the worst cards in the game because you can't even use one in your deck

the point is that if they weren't banned or limited, they'd be amazing obviously, and it's not like casual players give a shit about the banlist

Limited is not the same as Forbidden though. Pot of Greed is forbidden because the card advantage is OP in almost any scenario, even if you could theoretically Ash Blossom it or some other quick negation. Jinzo, despite having a strong effect, is easily counterable even including the fact that there wasn’t many cards (or legal cards) that could just straight up destroy a monster. I’d have to double check but I’m pretty sure Raigeki wasn’t forbidden while Jinzo was limited and I know it was around at the same time he was.

Yeah but backrow was something you actually stocked with shit to stop raigeki. Since it wasn't a quick play you should have something to deal with it by the time you get your Jinzo w/ Amplifier  going.

True you can stack your backrow but cards like MST don’t negate effects regardless of spell speed so Dark Hole/Raigeki/Fissure are still going to go through. The only cards in your backrow that can efficiently negate spells are ironically trap cards which Jinzo will negate. Even back then specific wording was important.

i wonder why they don't just make them super OP for casual play only, since they're in charge of banning stuff anyway

Because they're anime cards. I know that's a real shitty explanation but that legitimately is Konami's reasoning. They had a situation just like this recently with a card called Firewall Dragon. The card was OP as shit and was used for multiple infinite-loop OTKs but instead of just simply banning Firewall Dragon they would ban literally every other card around it for a while before they did finally outright ban it.

We never did get an explanation as to why because Konami never mentions cards when they get hit and added to the list, but it was pretty obvious they didn't want to ban Firewall because it was an iconic card from the VRAINS anime. Kids are just as welcome into locals/tournaments as any other age group and Konami stresses that a lot so they didn't want to (but ultimately ended up having to) ban a card a kid saw from the anime and wanted to use it when going to their first locals/tournaments/whatever.

The same logic for Firewall Dragon could be used on making banned OP God cards.

i wonder why they don't just make them super OP for casual play only, since they're in charge of banning stuff anyway

i use pot of greed

pot of greed allows me to draw 2 extra cards from my deck to my hand!
I activate the normal spell card known as “Pot Of Greed”. As told on the top of the card, below the dark gray border. This card that is named “Pot Of Greed” contains an effect located in its effect text box. I will now activate the effect by reading the text. Due to the effect of “Pot Of Greed”, I am allowed to pick up the top two (Represented in roman numerals as II, not to be confused with the number after ten and preceding twelve known as eleven) cards of my main deck that can contain monsters, spells, and traps, but not Fusion, Synchro, XYZ, or Link monsters. Immediately after I complete the action of placing my fingers on my main deck, so that the top card of my main deck will slide off the next card when I pull my finger horizontally to myself so that I and only I can see the card that I have taken out of my deck. After I complete this action, I must then place my fingers upon the top face down card of my deck (In some rare situations, the top card of my deck will be face-up, instead of the normal face-down position. For example, when the effect of the card known as “Parasite Paracide” (Whose effect text is as follows: FLIP: Put this card face-up in your opponent's Deck and shuffle it. When your opponent draws this card, it is Special Summoned to their side of the field in face-up Defense Position, and inflicts 1000 damage to them. Then, while this card is face-up on the field, all monsters your opponent controls become Insect-Type monsters.) is activated and shuffled into my deck, and happens to be on the top of my deck, it will be face-up due to its effect. There is an exception to this, where if the card known as “Convulsion Of Nature” is in effect while “Parasite Paracide” is shuffled into my main deck per its effect, the resulting “Parasite Paracide” that is now in my main deck, will appear face-down. The other situation where some or all of the cards held in my main deck is with the continuous spell card known as “Convulsion Of Nature” (Its effect is stated as the following: As long as this card remains face-up on the field, both players must turn their respective Decks upside down and proceed with the current Duel.” if “Convulsion Of Nature” is destroyed after being face-up in the spell and trap card zone as well as activated and resolved, both players must turn their decks upside-down so that their cards on the top of their deck are not visible, (Not to be confused with marked cards, which is a card that has some identification on the back of said card. This strategy is illegal and if used in a tournament, will get you ejected most of the time, or given a new unmarked copy)) where due to its effect, both players must turn their decks 180° so that you are able to view the topmost card of both your main deck, and your opponent’s main deck.) and pull my fingers towards me again so that the card follows it and can be manipulated using my fingers. After pulling my fingers away from my main deck for the second time, I then take the two cards that were taken from the top of my main deck and bring them towards the cards that are not on the field, graveyard, extra deck, or main deck that is visible only to myself, (Unless under the effect of a card effect that reveals my hand to my opponent, such as (In the TCG(Trading Card Game(This is used as a term when referring to cards that have been imported from the OCG(Original Card Game(Used in Asia)(Not to be confused with the medical term of the same initials which means “Oral cholecystogram”)))))the trap card known as “The Eye Of Truth” (Whose effect is as follows: Your opponent must keep their hand revealed. During each of your opponent’s standby phases, if they have a spell card in their hand: They gain 1000 LP (Life points)))(This is referred to as “Your Hand”). After I have successfully changed the position of the two cards that were face-down before the effect of “Pot Of Greed” was activated to my hand, without my opponent chaining a card effect that prevents me from activating spell cards, or adding cards to my hand, I then must send “Pot Of Greed” from the spell and trap card zones to my graveyard. This is accomplished by placing my fingers on either side of the card known as “Pot Of Greed” so that I pick up the card when I move my hand vertically and horizontally towards the zone known as “The Graveyard” that is located behind my main deck, or from my opponent’s point of view, in front of my main deck.
