It'd be a lot more interesting if they expanded on the story regarding the war that is vaguely mentioned in the series. It would be really interesting. It would explain why there are so many absent fathers. It would be interesting to find out that Ash's dad really died in the war and his mom telling Ash that he is a Pokemon trainer on adventures is just a lie cooked up by his mother to spare Ash the devastation. I would go ahead and take a guess that the war revolved around the world converting into the odd utopian socialistic state that is present in the Pokemon series and one or possibly several countries who opposed it. Of course, that would be if Pokemon was a bit more mature, but knowing its child friendly nature, if the did expand upon the war, they'd probably make it about the ethical treatment of Pokemon or some shit.

I can't find any references atm but I believe it was something about Pokémon equality with the Verizion, Cobalion and what's his name being involved.

It's sort of hidden lore that isn't necessarily canon or acknowledged much by any NPCs in-game, since mature themes have no belonging in a game such as Pokemon.
It comes down to seriously suggestive details that pop up here and there with no real depth, sort of like Adventure Time I suppose.

It has nothing to do with X/Ys story by the way.
