A "worthy cause" that you have ascribed value to. It's an extension of yourself.

People who value others "more than" themselves aren't selfless--they're just more selfless than the average person.

There is no perfectly selfless deed.

Receiving positive reinforcement for committing good deeds isn't necessarily a bad thing, either, because it encourages you to continue performing good deeds.

If you've ever done something nice for someone, and felt all warm inside because of it, that's just dopamine. Your brain likes that sensation, and you're subconsciously told to keep doing it--not just because it's a nice thing to do, but because it feels good.

Everything--everything--has at least a hint of selfishness in it. Deny it all you want. It won't change anything.

Well, yeah, because thoughts translate to actions, and if you want to change someone's actions (because they're harmful or negative in some way), you have to communicate with them. I don't see the problem.

Well, yeah, because thoughts translate to actions, and if you want to change someone's actions (because they're harmful or negative in some way), you have to communicate with them. I don't see the problem.

It's pointless in some situations, like whether they think you would be a good mod or not.

Whether or not Verb would be a good mod, past choices say that how the community views them plays a role. Given what an explosive conversation this has been, I doubt that Verby would get chosen. Too risky for community backlash.

Maybe down the road, if things continue to change.

There is always some degree of self-interest in what people do. It could be ideological (martyrdom, for example) or for material gain. The focus should be on where that effort is directed.

Nobody thinks they're the bad guy, everybody wants to fix things in their own way. Selfless and selfish are a matter of perspective.
