I just saw it. As someone who unironically loved the first one, I was somewhat optimistic for this one.

Well it was uhh...Kind of a mess. There were things in there that I liked such as the hybrid kaijus and the rogue Jaeger fight, but damn the rest of it was awful.

Did anyone else see it? I know I'm probably in the minority loving the first one, but damn I'd like some reassurance that this one was much much worse.

I loved the first one. Had a nice world-building atmosphere to it. Idris Elba and Ron Perlman were fantastic in the movie, also that one scientist guy, I forget his name but he was over-the-top and did his role perfect for the type of movie he was in.

I was hyped for the second one and want to watch it but I can't right now because I don't have the time to. Probably won't be able to until it releases on blu ray.

heard the japanese girl from the first movie was killed off because the the second movie had some pretty heavy chinese involvement (financially) and it was done to make them happy. that's all i know about the second movie though.

Lol, that's pretty interesting. Not sure how plausible it is though. Her death is a pretty integral part of the story and opens up the next arc, and Japan is still prominently featured in the final parts of the movie. Still, with two Asian actresses in big roles it might have influenced who ended up the heroic one in this movie.

china is fairly racist and it wouldn't be the first time chinese involvement has influenced the end result of western media. off the top of my head a recent marvel movie had references to tibet scrubbed and a character changed from being tibetan to celtic.
