People are actually following the traffic laws here. Whenever I walk up to a road crossing as a pedestrian, the cars will stop to let me over. I'm used to having to wait until the fourth or fifth car, but here the cars often stop even if they would have been able to pass before I reached the crossing.

It feels nice, but kind of awkward, like I'm bothering these people by delaying them. Which it shouldn't be, but I'm feeling a bit guilty anyway.

I always make sure to wave and nod as a thank you, though.

Funny, here it seems like people go out of their way to hit you.

People obey traffic laws here too, mostly because the roads are so narrow it's a death wish to not do so

I went to another city to study at uni, and in my first week there I saw two crashes happen right in front of me, nobody followed the traffic laws there jeez louise

That was Gävle. The cars would stop at red  lights, of course, but at ordinary crossings you'd often have to wait until  a few cars had passed before being able to getting over.

Ahhh, I love reading up about random places. I'll be having a look at these two.

The crossing lights in my city are a joke. They flash for about 5 seconds and then all the traffic starts moving forward menacingly. I suppose that even the elderly are expected to dash across highways.

Well every city in Calgary is like that. Hell I have foynd myself slowing down so that as much of the traffic leaves before I reach. Hopefully will not have to hold anyone uo. And this is calgary Canada.
