These are the classifications of ship in my human navy for my thing :3

Corvettes- primarily stealth and reconnaissance. One per fleet, used to scout.

Shikari-class, 95m, two ship-to-ship (STS) batteries, stealth drive
Venator-Class, 115m, four STS batteries, one cannon
Predator-Class, 150m, six STS batteries, two main guns, Starfighter deployment (x3)

Frigates- Main ships used as escorts for larger ships
Howler-class, 400m, 10 STS batteries, 2 cannons, 100+ anti-fighter guns, missile batteries
'Missile boat' support frigate (remote-controlled, no crew or life support), upwards of 40,000 missile launchers, two cannons, 500m
Monday-Class heavy frigate, 508m, four main guns, upwards of 150 anti-fighter guns, 12 STS batteries

Battleships- Small carrier/ attack craft with atmospheric stabilisers, primarily engage in ground support rather than space combat
Merlin-Class, 250m, 30 fighters, two STS batteries
Hercules-Class, 450m, 70 fighters (multiple decked carrier), numerous STS guns
Tyrannon-Class lander, 70m, one STS battery

Dreadnaughts- General purpose attack craft
Hallmark-Class, 750m, 7 main cannons, 50 STS batteries, 150 fightercraft
Odyssey-Class, 1010m, 4 main cannons, 75 STS batteries, 200 fightercraft

Destroyers- Anti-Ship craft, closer ranged and heavily armoured
Templar-Class, 1630m, 8 main guns (spread laterally), 105 STS batteries, 50 fightercraft
Wyvern-Class, 2000m, 16 main guns, 200 batteries, 65 fightercraft

Cruisers- Anti-ship craft, long range
Pantheon-Class, 3000m, one solar cannon, 16 STS batteries
Winter-Class armoured cruiser, 3500m, two solar cannons, 30 STS batteries, two main guns

Carriers- troop deployment and fighter deployment and flagships
Gargantua-Class Assault Carrier, 4100m, two solar cannons, 40 STS batteries, over 1000 fightercraft and 3000 infantry
Leviathan-Class 4500m, one solar cannon, 50 STS, 6 main guns, 1000 fighters
Behemoth-Class, 5600m, 100 STS, 20 main guns, 3000 fighters, 10000 infantry
Midnight class (Only one made), 8260m, one solar cannon, 26 main guns, >150 STS guns, 100,000 infantry and fightercraft

Overall, each ship class has a designated role in its warfare. However, all are multipurpose all the same. The midnight class is the newest classification of warship, and was originally slated to become the only carrier used in fleets, before the fall of earth.

Also, a solar cannon is a weapon that can destroy continents. Like their equivalent to halo's MKV SMAC or glassing beam. They have a range if hundreds of thousands of km.

That is a lot of thought for ships. What gets me is the midnight class. Im trying to compare it to something.

I like hugs and making the world a better place. That and guns. Lots and lots of guns.

How about a blade-like vessel with streams of plasma overlaying the edges meant for ramming de-shielded vessels and cutting through them in devastating ways.

That's not too far from the missile boat unmanned ones. Except they have a giant shield on the front so they can get close to enemies without taking a critical hit. No crew=moar guns, and these mofos have a few thousand missile launchers and even Flechette cannons. When their ammunition stores are deployed or they are critically damaged, they initiate a a self destruct sequence which activates all onboard ammo to explod and the nuclear weapons+reactor to go off, causing a widespread EMP and temperatures of a few million degrees. Or they kamikaze other ships.

In the grand scheme of things, that's still a small ship. The biggest one was onl utilised once, in the destruction of Luna, and is roughly 6,000km long.

The Phoenix-Class Colony ship is the Spirit of Fire
Vindicator is a post-war battleship, the one seen in the Halo 4 level Midnight
Autumn is a new cruiser type introduced post-war, designed as an updated version of the decomisioned Halcyon class, though equipped with the upgrades recived by the Pillar of Autumn for Operation: RED FLAG (A honeycomb armour structure that could take many more hits, the ability to fire 3 MAC rounds on a full charge and so forth) and thus where it got its namesake
Prowlers are the stealth and reconnaissance shis used by ONI

Using any of them would be a blatant rip off

As long as they're not identical in appearance or anything like that, there's no reason you couldn't use the names. There's tons of ships in sci-fi called prowlers, but Bungie still used it.

I'm trying to avoid using the same names. I temporarily had robotic drone things called sentinels (Though they are nothing alike) before changing the name. I like keeping things my own thoughts. Well, aside from things are generic scifi tropes like orbital drop marines (Halo, Titanfall, Starcraft, Warhammer etc)

Also, me and a friend have been working to create an alien language (Not space english. A full new syntax and everything) and then using words to name alien technology and stuff :D

Virtually no name hasn't been used at some point. Even if you try coming up with something totally new, I guarantee somebody's used it before somewhere. It'd be easier to just name them what you want to name them and move on.

I tried that once. Got too time-consuming for me. World-building is more my speed.

If I haven't heard of it, I can deny copying, such as the fact I didn't even 40K until after I had named one of my main factions te Imperium, and I'm not changing that- way too many documents relating to it. Going back to spaceships, I'm in a predicament as I started 3D modelling te midnight class on google sketch up today, and while doing it, I realised it looks like a fucking star destroyer with bits glued on. It sucks because its one of my few remaining designs from when I first began doing this stuff and I don't want to see it go.

As for the language- it's mainly my friend doing it. I do the sciences stuff and te world building, and he helps with some of the civilisation stuf as he knows a bit about sociology so he knows a bit more about cultures and stuff. And he is self teaching himself Swedish so he knows languages, partially because he does his own fantasy stuff and has complete elves and Dwarven languages.

So don't let it go. The Star Destroyer isn't a unique design by any means. As long as it's not identical there's nothing to worry about.

By the way, does Google Sketch Up require an actual mouse to use? I was thinking about downloading that, but I only have a scrollpad on my laptop and it doesn't connect to handheld mouses for some reason.

I use it at school, but I imagine you can use a touchpad. However, much like photoshop, it will be awkward as hell to use.
