Now, i know this scene is all hollywood, but how would you handle this? I think many of the moves made here were pretty stupid

I would've:
>Fired waaayy more volleys of arrows instead of just 2

> used more hit and run tactics(in case you haven't seen this film, they already fucked up and split the enemy force with fire bombs)

> waited till the enemy was a lot closer before charging( the rifles were able to get 4 unneeded volleys off before the fighting even started)

> when enemy reinforcements arrived, I would've charged with the cav from the back, not the side, then send in infantry after the rifles were caught in melee.

Discuss  what you would've done in this situation

agreed, the slo mo scenes were gruesome

Retreat seems like a better option than throwing more bodies to the massacre.

Well, in the film this is literally THE LAST battle they were gonna fight, they were ready to die. And I mean, they did it in a pretty badass way.

Because it's a film, really.

Well, this film is based off of the boshin war and the satsuma rebellion of 1877. The final battle, the battle of shiroyama pretty much went down in a similar manner, 500 samurai made their last stand against 30,000 imperial soldiers. And they fought to the last man, and even inflicted about 10,500 casualties(please note casualties doesnt just mean fatalities, it also means inflicted injuries, i doubt they would kill that many)

So while this film is heavily romanticized, the real events happened in a similar manner.
