Does anyone use this feature? I argued against it while the b.old community threads were going on. I said it was unnecessary and created poor moderation, and look how Bungie.net is doing today.

On a small site like this I don't mind it but I still refuse to use the feature unless it's an extreme case (spam).

I know some people here have pages of muted users

I have one kid muted because he creeped me out. But that's a pretty extreme case, like, I've seriously muted him.

Apart from that I use it to give people time outs.

No joke, I checked my mute list (on b.net) for shits and giggles and you were the only person on it. I must have misclicked because I have no clue why and enjoy your posts.

I normally empty my list after a while because the spammers I mute move on or get perm-banned.

It won't stop me from checking posts every once in awhile just for the sake of context, but if I'm reading through a longer thread, I enjoy not having to read stupid shit from stupid people.

To be fair you can get spammed with notifications or PMs in some cases. I'd hope that anyone being harassed could get a mod to resolve it though (which doesn't happen on b.net)

i had MadMax and MyNameIsCharlie muted in '13 during the lawless days because of the constant bait threads on b.net. i went back and unmuted them half a year ago or so.

That's what moderators are supposed to be useful for. In a well moderated site, harassment doesn't go unnoticed and is dealt with quickly.

But at the same time, a lot (see: nearly all) of the members here were used to using the b.next/b.lind features from Bungie.net. A notification system was one of the first big requests here, when it was never a feature on the old Bungie.

It's one of those "won't miss it till it's gone" kind of things, I think.

I don't mind the mute feature. I don't use it like I do on b.net. Here, it's mostly a "remember this dude is an idiot before responding" since you can still expand the posts.
