I like to think I'm an optimist when it comes to movies, and the fact that Hollywood isn't doing the butchering this time helps with that.

Ryuk should never have been copied from the anime. It just looks cheesy and stupid. Willem Dafoe is probably the best way they could salvage how ridiculous the character is.

L looks great, but it looks like they're going a different direction with their interaction -- I haven't watched it in years, but he never came out and accused Light of being Kira until he was killed, right? And here he is doing it in what looks like a public cafe.

"respect for source material" is a dumb bad meme

there are reasons the show looks terrible; this isn't one of them

if you want a completely faithful and unchanged death note, then just read the manga—different interpretations of the source material should be welcomed and embraced, because it's 10x shittier when things are completely the same (or when things try to be completely the same; it's obviously not possible and you won't please everybody)

ohba wrote the manga and obeta drew it. araki directed the anime adaptation

it's just annoying to have to see this happen for the upteenth time. these american adaptations are always trainwrecks and always miss the point (the one exception, imo, being edge of tomorrow)
