Alright so my PC is almost 7 years old. Updated the GPU to a GTX970 but even that is aging. But running at 8GB ram, i7 2600? Its old tho, and I dont remember the GPU.

Hell I think the HDD had a good run as it is. So Im building a new Rig. My question is all my steam games, can I save the entirety on it to an internal HDD (which is only a few months old) remove that and install the HDD to a new PC, would I need to reinstall all those games? Does that HDD need to be empty to transfer to a new PC?

Would it work the same way with an external HDD

Nothing else really matters to me beside all that game data.

This is not the greatest sig in the world, no. This is just a tribute.
All I know is that I moved a lot of my steam library to an external drive and they play just fine off of there.

GPU prices are through the roof right now but you could get a Ryzen APU which will give you ok gaming performance.

The angel agreed to trade a set of white wings for the head of another demon. Overjoyed, the demon killed one of his own and plucked the head right off its still-warm body.

The angel then led the demon to heaven, where he underwent centuries of the cruelest tortures imaginable. Finally, the pain was so great that he lost consciousness - at which point his dark wings turned the promised shade of white.
It should work like an external aside from drivers

You should probably up the PSU and why the Wi-Fi mobo?
Well it was honestly cheaper just to use the specs that were provided in the prebuilt list, I already have an adapter which is probably quicker then the mobo (then again I've never had one so it'll be worth a play with) and I would have preferred a 750W PSU, but it should be fine. Though I will ask the supplier why they dont just run a 750, seeing as it gives a lot more headroom.

Youre only running 8GB?

Games are getting a bit heavier these days, do the games run smoothly?

Plus I like multitasking so I find myself needing more.

The newest game I have installed is Battlefront EA 2 and it runs smooth. No frame drops.

DOOM also runs smooth as dicks. The blood is like, real life.

Mine does too, but Ive been getting ever frequent blue screens and the PC overheats even if Im only running one program and the PC isnt overclocking. Its Australia, you have no idea how hot this room already is then the PC makes it worse.

Could be a multitude of things, Ive thoroughly clean it but it could be the cooling gel on the CPU finally wearing off, but I really do think a lot of my issues would be solved by wiping it completely and starting fresh. Im thinking this PC lasted me 7 years, thats pretty damn good, may as well buy one entirely new and sell the old one at least for the parts and make some moolah back that way.

Most recent issue with this pc is that every few seconds the screen will turn on and off again, tried countless things, reverting back a day, trying older drivers, new hardware ect. Im just tired of it.

There's nothing wrong with that. 8700k is the best gaming chip right now

Oh I was commenting on the build. I don't know the power consumption of a build like that but I think 650 watts should be enough.

Unless you know where the save directories are for each game, you'd start all over if you don't back those up.

You would need to reinstall your games via Steam and just copy all the save data and you should be good to go. I've done this with Rocket League before, no issues.

Just make sure your backups are current.

does this stuff even work?

Since most of your rig is suuuuuper old you're better off doing what jono suggested and as far as saving games from steam goes... I don't use steam a whole lot but as far as i know steam saves your data so if you have to reinstall it shouldnt be an issue( i once reinstalled a game on a different pc and my game data was where i left off). Also Your HDD does not have to be empty to be put in a new PC(someone correct me if i'm wrong). just make sure to be careful when you put the HDD in a new pc.
