Jesus Christ it felt like I had to force myself to read it a few times. I appreciate the fact that it's a big sprawling world that has been created with shitloads of detail but goddamn I came to discover that this style of writing definetely isn't my cup of tea

What did you think of the books? Did they feel like a chore to read for you too?

I read the Hobbit and Fellowship in middle school and decided I didn't like it as much as the movies so I never read any more. I was in a huge LOTR kick a couple weeks ago and bought the Hobbit, got about 50 pages in and haven't picked it back up since classes started up again.

Most people I've talked to would agree with you. Id like to at least finish the Hobbit before I judge them but idk if I ever will.

The Hobbit reads the same, I made it through to the end though it was a slog.

Sure, the story they tell is cool and the worldbuilding is great but as books they're just boring.

Absolute trash imo. I had to read that Tom bombadill part like six times before I got a clear picture of what was happening.

Love the movies but the books were god awful.
