You got the first two right. It translates to "can you catch a fly?" And the answer is "Ja, vann sie hukkah bleivve" which roughly means "yeah, if it sits still" and then all the old drunk Dutchys at the bar fall of their stools laughing cause they found someone else from the community.

Yeah. It's because it's a really old dialect of Low German that became separated from all the other tongues when the Anabaptists came to America.
And then the wiring.... There's two forms that are recognized as correct, one more English phonetic spelling and one closer to German spelling. And with a lot of people like me who only picked up oral bits and phrases as a kid, most of us are illiterate in the language anyway!
