The company reserves the right to terminate our contracts for whatever reason while we're on a probationary period for a while after we start working there. She was fired for having too many absences.

The absence that broke the contract's back? She had to be wheeled out of the store one day on an ambulance and into a gurney because she fainted. That, apparently, counted as an absence.

And there's probably two dozen people ready and willing to take the spot and wont have attendance issues.

Sounds like she had a couple of missed shifts prior to this. I assume that if this was the only one she missed, they would let it slide because it was medical. But if she missed (x) shifts prior to this, and now this, I can totally understand why management would cut her loose.

I know but this could still get them in legal trouble. To consider a medical emergency an abscence could be illegal. If that was the reason of termination it could get them in a whole bunch of legal trouble. First check with any law agency about this and you better have good records to support you.
