This is basic shit. If somebody's romantically interested in a person and that person doesn't reciprocate those feelings, it's painful. This is basic human interaction.
All wounds heal over time, but that doesn't make the initial reaction any less painful. However I'm not here to defend OP, he's throwing away a possible great friendship. I would never let myself get that way, after going my whole life losing friends I couldn't bring myself to purposefully sabotage one.
