It's not a fun needle. But, if you get to the ER and you still need major fluids in a short amount of time, the ER techs will shove a nice 10 gauge needle and catheter right into your femoral line. You best hope you're not conscious at that point to feel it, those things are pretty thick. So yes, 10 gauge needles are a thing.
