After Trump sackied Comey, McCain is calling for an independent investigation of Trump's ties to Russia. Furthermore there are an increasing number of calls for a special investigator, which could only mean one thing, Impeachment.

Feel free to look yourself. I am purposely not linking a story, lest it be called fake news.

Now, would Trump survive an impeachment? Remember that it's just a levying of crimes against a sitting official. For whatever reason people seem to think it means their dismissal. What do you think would come out of those hearings? What reaction do you expect from the American people?

Undermine whatever support he has by either having him spaz out on Twitter and other places, or it turns up some crazy evidence come out that proves this accusation which opens up a whole 'nother can o' worms.

Then McCain can either be a smug git and get the populist vote later("He's the dude who shoved a fire under Trump's arse!"), or gets Trump impeached and his party has a bit of a musical chair shuffle, McCain making the most of it.

Or... maybe he just doesn't like Trump.

I dunno. McCain's an old school patriot. I don't think he'd break ranks with his party just for a power play.

I will wait till the midterm elections, if the Democrats can get a majority, Trump may be impeached. But for now, shit has to get worse for him to impeach.
