Everyone hates boxing, just not for the reasons you do. It's a boring as HECK sport and they smack each other with pillows. 10 ounce gloves are super soft and easy to hide behind.
That, and much like the NFL, once people found out that "hey maybe getting hit in the head so much isn't a good idea" correlates with concussions, the sport rapidly fell off (you're seeing the NFL deal with it as well, as well as players actually retiring at younger ages so they don't go brain dead by age 45).
