i hate the way math classes are taught far more than i hate math itself

history bores the ever-loving shit out of me, and to this day represents the biggest lacuna in my education

we had a lot of history nerds on this forum, which has always mystified me

English

At least math has rules you can follow
English requires creativity and shit

im taking calculus right now (which is absolute bullshit because i took it under the quarter system, but since my uni converted to semesters, i now suddenly have to take more of calc) and being online one day of the week for an hour doesnt help much

i am very slow when it comes to math and need a lot of guidance, so when i have class for one hour a week and then thrown into the homework by myself, welllll

i find history super fascinating but i totally get why one would hate it

calc is pretty annoying because it requires a lot of mastery to be able to break down problems so they’re solvable in an efficient manner

the english/math thing is hilarious if you ever take a computational analysis class or logic class which uses mathematical models to break down sentences in order to find truth or/and contradictions

i have learned to like all subjects

Just message me.
Vien 'Quitonm#1598 is my discord
Imagine going through Calc III, then back to computational linear algebra.
It's like relearning pre cal.

If you know, you know.
Barely passed my two years of calc back in the day.

I'm alright at the ol' numbers but I just could not see a pattern in integration.
Not once did I use it since. Not for uni work nor IRL.

This site helped a little bit: http://mathtutor.ac.uk/

and those who do know history are bound to watch other people repeat it

there's only so many lessons you can take from it
- killing bad
- lying bad
- war bad
- religion bad
- bigotry bad
- humans stupid
- selfishness evil
- presidents suck
- capitalism bad
- feminism good
- basically learn a bunch of -isms and pick which ones you like
- economics complicated
- free speech good
- voting good

i don't exactly need a billion case studies for this shit

Now that you mention it, I love history and I also love just being an observer towards whatever events unfold around me.

and those who do know history are bound to watch other people repeat it

i can't think of anything noteworthy tbh; pretty consistently mediocre across all subjects.

i've always tended to score higher in math on standardized tests and lower in english, but oddly i'd consider myself more of a "right-brained" type person.

in general, courses i did the best in tended to require the least amount of time investment, and courses i did the worst in tended to require the biggest time investment.

Long live NoNolesNeckin.

Ya fuckin' ganderneck.
Out of STEM?

It was always science, specifically astronomy. Least favorite was math. Which is ironic since science is so dependent on math.
I'm not terrible at math if I actually try, but I just found it very boring for the most part and had little motivation in doing it.

Brevity at its finest.

I'm personally a history buff because of our failures and the inevitability of us repeating past mistakes.

College math courses were too condensed for my liking, so I understand the frustration. What always interested me was that calculus I and II only “Clicked” in my head like a month after finishing them (Calc III was nice because it had far less of a learning curve). I didn’t do spectacularly on exams, but think anyone could if they weren’t restricted by the rushed nature of math classes.

Mathematics takes time to sink in, but you aren’t afforded that luxury often during college. Sometimes you have to take a step back and look at the big picture before diving into the computations so you can rationalize what’s happening on a conceptual level. But you’re always pressured to move forward even if you’re not quite ready.

Now that I’ve graduated I can revisit old math topics or explore new ones without anxiety because of the fear of not passing. Can just go at my own pace.

I don’t know if I dislike any one subject especially. Most things can be at least a little interesting to me if the delivery is passionate and informative.

Considering I'm a high school dropout the subjects weren't complicated. Hard to pick one favorite because I loved science and english in equal measure. I was always god fucking awful at math, but I don't think I hated it, just the way it was taught. I find that if I'm actually left to do mathematical calculations on my own, I pick them up decent enough, but only if they're for a subject of interest.
