Get of my lawn
A guy or group is pouring over every photo from the unite the right rally and identifying as many people as he can. Essentially he's doxxing them. I am sure there will be repercussions for them.

Can't say I fault the doxxers but it does seem pretty sketchy to be firing people for their political beliefs.

If anyone sees nothing wrong with doxxing then please be sure to list your name, address and workplace. I'm sure painting an extremist group into a corner (getting doxxed) will have no bad consequences. /s What people need to be doing is try to change their incorrect viewpoint not trying to silence it.

Biggest issue is that people very often get these things wrong.
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/08/14/us/charlottesville-doxxing.html

And it just chucks more fuel to the fire, if this is to be believed:
Quote
...And the person behind @YesYoureRacist — who could not be reached for comment — was the target of an apparent doxxing by another Twitter user, who posted what appeared to be phone numbers and other personal information. Twitter deleted that tweet and suspended the account.

Funny, how two sides fight one another by breaking the ToS of the site, but the one who responded back was censored and punished, while the instigator gets off scott-free and is also getting Patreon payments to continue doing it. If the internet (and the large companies who own swathes of it) want to keep it a place for relatively free discussion, selectively cracking down on people who break the rules isn't the way to go about it.

It doesn't matter which side is "good" or "bad" (though tbh I think neither are anywhere near the former), it sets a precedent as well as all the other recent terminations of service based largely on the outbursts of "the masses" - a vocal bunch that just follow along with whatever the new fad outrage is. We get what we see now, mob mentalities on either side that have completely gone past the original cause for the anger and just resort to name calling, witch hunts, and then the occasional bystander's life being ruined in the process.

People need to contribute to their local community and chill out, not stay at home and shout at people on the internet.

That doesn't stop people from taking the names from the list of people and posting the rest of the information for everyone to see. The only difference being /pol/ was mutually coordinating the information whereas with this, people can just continue where the guy left off with just names.

I don't know much about the rally. What were these people doing? If it was anything like what the guy /pol/ doxxed did like beating people with a bike lock, then yeah they reap what they sew. But if they're just shouting racist nonsense, then you'd be right in saying these two situations are not comparable because the guy /pol/ doxxed was significantly worse.

That seems like a pretty grave simplification of the situation though. I skimmed through almost two months of the @yesyoureracist guy's Twitter and haven't seen a single post of his where he did anything more than name people clearly identifiable in public marches. That's very different from doxxing an anonymous person on the internet and list (as I've seen on /pol/ and their twitter accounts) phone numbers, addresses, facebook accounts, employment details and information of the personal lives of the guy himself, his wife, his parents and his boss. You can't in good faith pretend they're the same and say there's no difference between naming someone on a picture taken in public and leaking all of their information with the clear intent that people harass them.

That's a fair point, I can't say I had seen anything from /pol/ nor knew what they were doing. I'm merely talking from this smaller perspective, of one guy on Twitter naming people from a picture and then one guy identifying him in response.

It doesn't acquit any of them for what they've done however. Sure, naming some face in a protest doesn't do much on it's own, but then as Ian pointed out it doesn't mean it's going to be left at that by anyone else, especially when it's the  mobs looking for some "justice/revenge" to dish out. There's already several articles circulating around of one son beingdisowned by his father, and another being forced to resign from his measly hotdog job (they both mention in the article you posted, iirc). With the whole "punch a Nazi" message the more radical antifa are pushing, there's nothing stopping them from going further with it if they wish.

It doesn't matter if they actually do go through with violence, it's the fact that they easily can which makes it worrying. A mentality of "I wasn't doing anything bad, I just released the name that happened to get him fired/punched/etc" is ignorant. It doesn't matter if the guy getting hit is a Nazi, communists, whatever the fuck, it makes protesting about anything in the future more risky.

White supremacist rally that resulted in violence on both sides and saw one of the right extremists drive his car into a crowd of counter-protesters, killing one one of them.

I'm not trying to say killing a person isn't equal or less wrong than just starting violence, but if both groups are being violent, aren't both in the wrong?

And like proper white supremacism / nazism too, not the "all the right wing activists are nazis", but the "chanting nazi slogans, shouting death to antifa, wearing swastikas, donning nazi flags, doing the Hitler salute" kind.

None of that is technically a problem though. Legally speaking, they have the right to do so.

I'm just kind of supprised that anyone of intelligence is just gonna go and take this dude's word for it that all these people are who he says they are.

Yet I'm the crazy one for beleving that Bill Clinton and John Podesta are involved with an underage sex trafficking operation connected to (((Jeffrey Epstein)))
