Are drawing pads good in conjunction with photoshop?

I have photoshop, but I'm finding using a touchpad on my laptop really fucking annoying (My mouse broke) and I'm thinking about getting a drawing pad to use for digital art. Are they worth it? How much do decent ones cost?

I tried out a friends and it did this thing where it would start drawing if you had the pen a few millimetres off the surface, which was really annoying for me- but he said his cost £30. Do they all do that?

His eyebrows sparkling, his white beard hangs down to his chest. The thatched mats, spread outside his chise, spread softly, his splendid attos. He polishes, cross-legged, his makiri, with his eyes completely absorbed.

He is Ainu.

The god of Ainu Mosir, Ae-Oine Kamuy, descendant of Okiku-Rumi, He perishes, a living corpse. The summers day, the white sunlight, unabrushed, ends simply through his breath alone.
As a rule, there are two things you don't price hunt on: tattoos and graphic tablets. I'd recommend a Wacom brand tablet, check in the range of 40£ - 100£.

Hmm. Is the thing about picking up the pen when it's not touching a thing on mosts tablets, or only the worse ones?

My tablet would basically act as a cursor if you held it over the pad and only "clicked" if you touched it.

Is there a way to stop that happening?

Oh, and I'll look into one of those you mentioned, thanks.

It'd be a pain in the add if you didn't. Alternating between the mouse/keyboard and tablet to do everything is really cumbersome.

Holding your pen over the tablet should be like mousing on a tracpad.

I guess it's one of those things you just get used to.

It most certainly is. But once you get used to the motions, you realize that you can't do without it.

My tablet only "clicks" when the pen is physically touching the surface.

Huh, I don't know what was happening then. I was on fireworks and it was drawing even when the pen wasn't pressed to the surface.

It all depends on what kind of model the drawing tablet is, I guess. Either that or what the settings are set to. My tablet can "sense" the pen even above the surface, but it takes the pen tip being pushed in (it works like a button) for it to register as a click.
