Depends on the play. A lot of plays I've seen (especially amateur plays) seem very fake because of the obvious sets, exaggerated acting, and louder-than-normal speaking (all of which is done so people in the back can see and hear), and it just puts me off to it. If they're overtly funny, it's okay. It's difficult to take drama seriously. Musicals convey drama to me better than do plays.
