Look at it like going to the gym. You don't want to go there, but once you're there you workout. It's not weird that you have a fear of spit or other people's mouths, it's absolutely reasonable. You can contract many diseases through swapping spit, so the fear is justified. The act itself doesn't change though. Kissing is essentially the closest you can come to a person. If you were to touch the other person's head with your hand, it'd be distant. If you were to kiss their cheek or forehead there wouldn't be much of a two-way channel. Kiss someone on the mouth and it's your mouth that you use for interactions against someone else's.
