No...There's almost no sex in the books whatsoever, and none of it is grisly.
Cool. Now tell this to the thirty or so people that have told me otherwise.

They probably haven't read it and are just espousing what others have said.

There are sex scenes, but it's mostly a few sentences of foreplay and then a transition to a later scene.

You should look into some of the theories that have come up, they're really fucking in depth and some of them are probably true.

I've been looking at a bunch. Ehat interests me most right now is the continent of Sorthoryos. Fuckin' raptors, man.

To add to this, I'd only really call one scene in the series grisly ('Arya Stark' at Winterfell), and even then, most (all) of what happens is implied rather than told.

If anything, I'd call scenes like Biter eating brienne, quentyn deciding to play with dragons and the descriptions of theon's torture to be much more harrowing than any of the sex scenes. Aside from the aforementioned.

Quentyn and the dragons...I had to re-read that bit because I couldn't believe it had happened.

Yeah. After the importance that had been placed on Dorne uniting with the Targaryens, it seemed really out of the blue that Viserion would just kill Quentyn like that. I want to say it was the only time it ever felt out of the blue in the series, but I watched the show first so I knew about stuff like the Red Wedding and Tyrion's crossbow skills beforehand.

Daenerys stuff only gets good when the Yunkish and their sellswords start the siege of mereen, along with Aegon Targaryen, Victarion and Quentyn all attempting to race to be the first to get Daenerys (Well, her Dragons, anyway) on their side. Particularly now she's stranded in the Great Grass Sea, in the clutches of a Dothraki horde.
