The injuries are mostly attributed to crowdsurfing, not moshing. Which is very confusing thay the article doesn't seem to make a difference in terms; they're two different things.
I feel like that's something you're projecting onto the article. I don't see any reason to believe that's the case.

I'm not comparing them, I'm specifically pointing out how silly it is to say "people died doing that before". People have died going to see a movie. Point is that it doesn't happen often enough to pose a significant risk.
I guarantee more people have died moshing than any other example you've given so far. There's no such thing as an insignificant risk.
A grand total of nine deaths between 1996 and 2004. And the crowd goes mild.
I love it when niggas get fact checked

It's on par with releasing piss after two days
Too bad her source only helps me, because I'm not concerned with just deaths. Injuries are important, too.

10,000 annual injuries.

That's too much to be considered intelligent.
http://abcnews.go.com/Health/story?id=4804513&page=1

Most of those injuries are just bruises and nose bleeds

Besides tons of people say
"Yeah I got punched in the face. It was awesome!"
It's a part of the experience

Don't you think the rush and excitement is worth the risk
It's a flood of dopamine and a great release
Concerts like those are often something people remember for a while man
I think you're seriously undermining the mental aspect of this

His eyebrows sparkling, his white beard hangs down to his chest. The thatched mats, spread outside his chise, spread softly, his splendid attos. He polishes, cross-legged, his makiri, with his eyes completely absorbed.

He is Ainu.

The god of Ainu Mosir, Ae-Oine Kamuy, descendant of Okiku-Rumi, He perishes, a living corpse. The summers day, the white sunlight, unabrushed, ends simply through his breath alone.
"I guarantee more people have died moshing than any other example you've given so far."

Unless less than 10 deaths (most recent up to 2007) is more than the number of people who have drowned, died of hypothermia, died of skin cancer, or any other thing I mentioned-- that's completely bogus.

It's very Darwinian, I'll give it that. If this is just natural selection at work? Fine. Fuck these cunts. If you believe getting punched in the face is fun, you should probably die.

Because they literally follow up "70,000" with "There is no way to crowd surf or stage dive safely consistently," which most definitely implies where the injuries are coming from. And then again, and again and again throughout the article they refer back to crowdsurfing: most specifically, the danger of falling from six or seven feet onto concrete.

There are myriad circumstances involved in drowning, freezing to death, and contracting skin cancer.

Mosh pit deaths have one circumstance--"I was stupid enough to thrash around in a mosh pit."

They're dangerous by their very nature.
Swimming is not dangerous by its very nature.
Going out in the sun is not dangerous by its very nature.

They're not comparable. If you found data on people who died because they felt like it would be "fun" to attempt to drown themselves, then you'd have a fair comparison.

Do people get injured moshing? Yes, there are stray limb movements during it, sometimes people get bruised up a little (usually from crowdsurfers falling on them, tho) But to say that it's stupid because people die from it shows a lack of understanding on the subject.

The only thing pain I've encountered after moshing is soreness in my calves in the days following. And honestly, if you can't read a crowd, you probably deserve to get punched in the face until you learn. You don't fuck around with bad crowds, and it's easy to figured out in the first few songs whether it will be or not.

I don't think that implies it at all--the guy just said "crowd surf and stage dive" while being interviewed, and probably didn't want to catch up with the semantics of it. Whatever the case, I don't buy it. Moshing is retarded, the end.

And let me remind you here that I'm not arguing how stupid or not-stupid you should think it is. I know better than to do that with you of all people. I'm just pointing out, since the first reply, that your idea of how rampant death is from moshing is massively overstated.

See, this is the kind of logic that really scares me. You start doing stupid shit, you rationalize it, and then you start saying stuff like, "It's not stupid--if you get hurt, you probably deserved it!"

...Uh, yeah! If you put yourself in a dangerous position, expect to get hurt. That's what I've been saying. The difference is, you're trying to say that there is a "correct" way to do stupid shit.

which is just so UGH

"Reading bad crowds" shouldn't be a skill anyone should have or want to learn (unless you're stupid).

If you're going to swim, you should know if the current is too swift or the waves are too rough just by looking at them/testing them. Otherwise, be prepared to be a proud recipient of the Darwin Award.

Whatever. It was a rigged comparison from the start, which is what I was trying to explain. There's too many variables in all your examples, so of course you're right. But it's still not a fair comparison.

from experience i'd say that eating a full meal before you enter the festival and bringing a Camelbak with you are probably the two most important things to do. considering the fact that festival food will always be overpriced as fuck and having access to water at all times while you're dancing throughout the day is very important.

also, if you aren't familiar with the type of music that will be playing at the festival, do some of your own research on the lineup prior to showing up. it'll make enjoying the music so much easier.

damn, this is a hard one...

while flux pavilion and loudpvck both had killer sets, i'll have to say that carnage, kaskade, snails, and bassnectar were my favorites solely for how energized and fun the crowd was during their shows. i'd say i got the most moshing time out of bassnectar, and i left the pit without a scratch. but on the flip side, kaskade was just so uplifting and really set the tone for the rest of the last night.
