Now, if you want to say The Great Gatsby is the pinnacle of American literature, I could agree that it is one of the best books around.
Are you trying to troll me? Fitzgerald is objectively one of the worst writers of all time. And nonsensical? Are you kidding? Holden is supposed to be whiny, that's his character. The point of the book is his journey through that. He blames everything on everyone else even though he's directly responsible for his own suffering. He's a great character in the best book of all time.
