It's Like Climbing Night-Stairs

You don't even know if there are other stairs in the room, however big or small it is, but you know something's up there! And you can't quite place your finger on it, but it reminds you of something you've seen from a young age, grasping at it like some elusive butterfly lost in a distant home of associations and forgetfulness.

It's wondering which way up the stairs are right, but you can only step by the nearest approximation of a stair step, so even that's difficult! Not to mention not being able to see a path to where they lead or where other stairs lead to (if they really exist in that space and if you could even manage to find them).

You know what I mean?
