They have similar backstories, but there was a shitload more behind Kyle than what I've heard about Finn thus far.

We won't really know until the film comes out I guess.

I don't think they were trying to be diverse for the sake of it. A person at a Force Awakens panel asked JJ if there were any asians in the movie, and he said yes. But who they picked for each role, they felt would play it well.

Nah, Kanan is a discount Katarn. Same shirt and shoulder pad/glove thing, goatee, attitude, 'grey'/lost jedi vibe, etc.

The angel agreed to trade a set of white wings for the head of another demon. Overjoyed, the demon killed one of his own and plucked the head right off its still-warm body.

The angel then led the demon to heaven, where he underwent centuries of the cruelest tortures imaginable. Finally, the pain was so great that he lost consciousness - at which point his dark wings turned the promised shade of white.
