One of the better Episode VIII fan write ups I've read. Worth the read, sorry for the wall of text.

Luke trains Rey to be a grey Jedi, just like himself. Tells the story about the massacre of his old school but doesn't go into detail. The training does not go very well. She is incredibly gifted, but he goes very slow and is seemingly never impressed by her amazing feats.
Leia has to assemble what is left of the New Republic Fleet. Finn and Poe are her bodyguards. Lando is is the highest ranking survivor in The New Republic, declares war on The First Order, combines The New Republic's forces with The Resistance.
Kylo Ren is rescued by Hux and brought to Snoke. Snoke's version of completing Kylo's training is utter humiliation. His goal is to completely break Ben down. He humiliates him in front of the other Knights of Ren, abuses him, forces him to do terrible things.
Having tracked the Millenium Falcon to Luke's planet, Rey and Luke are attacked by The First Order and the Knights of Ren. Kylo is not present. Luke, Rey, Chewie, and R2D2 escape in the Millenium Falcon.
Kylo, the Knights of Ren, and Snoke go to assassinate Leia. Leia and Finn are captured. Poe leads the defense.
Luke, Rey, Chewie, and R2D2 come to the rescue. Rey and Chewie fight the remaining Knights of Ren while Luke fights Ben.
Luke tries to reason with Ben the whole time, saying he forgives him, saying his father would forgive him, etc. The Knights are all defeated, Kylo is 'disarmed' and defeated by Luke.
Rey asks Luke why he doesn't kill Kylo. She seems angry that he won't avenge Han Solo and all the others Kylo has killed.
Snoke appears with the captured Leia. Leia pleads to Ben to help Rey and Luke defeat Snoke. Chewie attempts to shoot at Snoke but is force choked and then thrown into a wall.
Snoke tells Rey she should kill Kylo and take revenge for Han Solo.... and Finn. Rey is shocked and asks him what he is talking about. Snoke reveals Finn who has been badly tortured and is on the verge of death. He has several lightsaber scars all over his body. Snoke tells Rey that Kylo is sadistic and tortured Finn for fun.
Kylo's eyes widen - Snoke lied to Rey - he screams out that Snoke is lying but it is too late. Rey in her anger ignites her lightsaber and swings for Ben's neck, but she is stopped by Luke's lightsaber. Rey screams at Luke to get out of her way as Luke tries to calm her down.
As Luke and Rey fight, Snoke continues. He says that this isn't the first time Luke has betrayed her. He reveals that it was Rey, unable to control her latent power, that massacred the Jedi school. He reveals that he wants to end death and create life, and that he was the one who created Anakin.. and then her. Terrified of her powers, Luke was able to subdue the child Rey and exiled her on Jakku, swearing to never train another Jedi again. Ben was the only surviving student - and his fear and rage at what happened is what allowed Snoke to turn him to the dark side and The First Order. Snoke convinced Ben that the Jedi were dangerous and would massacre others as Rey did. Snoke seduced Ben with power, saying that his grandfather Darth Vader righteously wanted to rid the galaxy of Jedi.
Rey, overcome by anger towards Ben and Luke, overcome by the fear of her own powers, begins to get the upper hand on Luke. Luke tells Rey that he will not let her kill in anger or for revenge, and stops the fight. He turns off his saber and explains that it is over and that if he is killed, he will become more powerful than they can possibly imagine.
Rey hesitates, but Snoke does not, and Luke is killed. His body disappears like Obi Wan. Leia screams.
Poe's squadron defeats The First Order and the republic/resistance is closing in. Snoke begins to flee with the captured Leia. Snoke tells Rey that Leia will be used as a bargaining chip to end the war, and under the new empire there will no more death or suffering. Rey leaves with Snoke.
Poe arrives and rescues Finn. He radios to Chewie that the building is collapsing and they need to get out. Having been left to die, Chewie and Kylo are the only ones left.
Chewie gets up, collects Luke's robe and lightsaber. Lightsaber in hand, Chewie approaches the now unconcious Kylo Ren..
The scene cuts to the Millenium Falcon barely escaping the imploding building. It catches up to Poe's ship and the remainder of the defense fleet. Over the radio you hear Lando say "Chewie.. I hope you know what you are doing."
The camera cuts to Ben's face. His eyes shoot open. He looks around and immediately realizes where he is. He gets up and stumbles through a familiar looking hallway. He stumbles over to the cockpit and collapses into the copilot chair. R2-D2 nervously follows him in. Chewbacca looks at him but doesn't say a word. Kylo, with a thousand yard stare, looks out into space from the Millenium Falcon's cockpit. Credits.

So the latest episode is about Terrorists/rebels in a place called Iziz.

How I think VII will begin:

It was pan out to space after the crawl just like always. Hux's shuttle will be transporting a wounded Ren to Snoke. Snoke will be angry, torture Ren, humiliate him, something along those lines. Maybe even make him jealous of Hux. Gruesome thought: for failing to bring Rey to him, Snoke will cut off Ren's limbs to make him more like Vader.

Next scene will be the stare down between Rey and Luke.

So it wasn't clear to me in the movie, but apparently the visual dictionary confirmed the planets destroyed in Ep 7 (the Hosnian system) was in fact the new capitol of the Republic and it destroyed the bulk of the Republic fleet.

I understand that there needed to be a conflict to give the characters a purpose, but this is the second time in a 'Star ___' franchise that JJ Abrams has wantonly destroyed a huge part of the story universe just to deliver a climax, and it's kind of a shame that he was allowed to get away with it again.

Eh, it didn't bother me. Hosnian Prime was introduced in the film and destroyed in the film. Unlike Vulcan, which existed prior to the 2009 Star Trek film.

That's even lazier, though. At least with Vulcan it impacted a main character (and the audience) with its weight, and made sense in the plot. In this case, in about a minute we were told of the new capitol, watched them blow up, and then everybody had moved on. There was really no apparent effect on any of the characters in the movie; the Republic was destroyed solely as a plot device.

Yeah, but a huge part of the universe wasn't destroyed. The New Republic has been dealt a massive blow, and I think that will probably come into play in later media.

I've been wondering if Leia has trained or utilized her force sensitivity at all.
