Yes, this includes the fault in our stars, and the hunger games, and divergent, the percy jackson shit, maximum ride, and all that other shit

I stopped reading this shit by the time I got to high school.

Now I see my mother, who is a fucking librarian, talking about how great Divergent and the Hunger Games books are. This woman is in her fucking 50s. This is fucking degeneracy.

These books were written for fucking 14 year olds. Do people not realize this? It's like grown ass men watching cartoons (not that many of you are any better about that).

There is absolutely no intellectual or literary value in these books. Adults should be reading books more advanced than what their goddamn children are reading.

Have we, as a society, really reached a point of such degeneracy that our adults are seeking books written with adolescents in mind?

And how do we get out of this hole?

I volunteered to help run an ex-friends bookshop once; I was looking after the shop one afternoon and some guy who must have been between 25 and 34 came in and bought basically all the goosebumps books for himself.

When will people realize that intended audience means nothing? Just let others enjoy what they enjoy.

Enjoy what you want, but you should be ashamed if you genuinely enjoy literature made for people who haven't reached full mental development.

What about The Lord of the Rings? They were written for an 8 year old and they're fucking difficult to keep up with.

What about WWZ? The Halo series?

There's loads of cool stuff. I read THG once and I thought it was okay, not enough to warrant a second read unlike WWZ which I think I've read about 6 times now.

Nostalgia, wanted to show his kids what he used to read when he was younger?
They were for him. We talked.

So nostalgia
eh, probably

but I have nostalgia for animorphs, and I pulled out my old books for a read and they were just.. unreadable; I don't think it's necessarily a reflection on your mental development, like door says, but it's definitely a reflection on your literacy level if you can still take genuine pleasure in these types of books as an adult
